Vision Statement
We envision a thriving, food-secure community where everyone has access to fresh, locally grown produce and the confidence to grow their own food. By fostering education, stewardship, and community collaboration, we strive to create a resilient urban food system that nourishes both people and the environment for generations to come.
Mission
Our mission is to cultivate fresh, nutrient-rich produce in the heart of our community while empowering individuals and families with the knowledge and skills to grow their own food. Through sustainable practices, hands-on education, and accessible programming, we aim to increase food security, promote wellness, and strengthen connections between people and the land.
Programming is centered on the belief that food is medicine. We grow fresh produce and medicinal herbs not only to nourish the body, but to reconnect people to the land and their own ability to care for themselves and their communities. Produce grown on the site is sold through ethical, local channels, with all proceeds reinvested directly into the nonprofit’s programs. This reinvestment supports garden maintenance, educational offerings, stipends for instructors, and expanded access for community members.
Educational classes and workshops are offered throughout the growing season and focus on practical, culturally relevant skills such as:
Growing food in urban spaces
Cultivating and using medicinal herbs
Soil health, composting, and sustainable growing practices
Food preservation and seasonal eating
Herbal wellness and plant-based self-care
These workshops are designed to be accessible to all experience levels and to honor traditional and ancestral knowledge alongside modern growing techniques.
Community services include the donation of fresh produce and herbs to local residents, mutual aid efforts, and community partners. By prioritizing food access, education, and reinvestment, the garden functions as both a learning space and a source of nourishment, supporting physical health, economic resilience, and community empowerment.
Through intentional boundaries, reinvestment-focused programming, and service-driven education, the garden serves as a living model of how urban agriculture can heal land, people, and communities together.
Our Story
Nan’Chang started this journey in her backyard, with a passion to grow food. The journey started out of a need to control exactly how my food was grown. The vision was to share knowledge on how to grow food, and to improve the health of the community. To help prevent and/or help those with chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Through dedication, faith and persistence that vision evolved into starting a community garden in 2020. Where individuals and families could learn, grow and thrive together. Through hands-on work, learning, and persistence the space has now grown and transformed into a beautiful community and market garden designed to serve others.
